Eight Inc. wins Vancouver Urban Design Award

Oct 10, 2014

Eight Inc.’s design of 1025 Robson Street has been recognized by the City of Vancouver with an Urban Design Award in the Urban Elements category. The Urban Design Awards recognize great architecture and urban design in Vancouver that demonstrate visionary thinking and support design excellence in the city.

The 49,000 sf of retail space located in Vancouver’s central shopping district, introduces a fresh, modern aesthetic to the busy neighborhood. Working with Vancouver-based Francl Architecture, Eight Inc. designed the project as a series of 2-story buildings, each with a distinct, yet complementary design. Detailing of the materials such as board-formed concrete, Canadian granite, steel, glass and wood clearly articulates an appreciation for the craft of building while allowing each brand’s storefront to have a distinct identity.

Eight Inc. Principal for Environments, Mark Little, says of the project, “This building is successful on many levels.  It fits seamlessly into the existing urban fabric, it speaks to the pedestrian experience along Robson St and it inserts a tightly curated collection of design elements that work holistically to create a variety of scales of visual and material texture.”
